What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is a curious term as it is actually not about being mind-full at all.  It is about being fully present, being aware of the present moment, and knowing that you are in the moment. It is acknowledging without judgment. what is happening in the moment, both around you and within your own mind. People often think mindfulness is all just about sitting crossed-legged, on the floor and trying as hard as possible to empty the mind of all thoughts.  Mindfulness and meditation are not necessarily the same thing although they complement one another and are often seen as the two sides of the same coin with many overlaps. You learn to focus on the present moment, whether that is whilst doing a sitting meditation, eating food, walking in nature, or doing the daily chores! In essence, mindfulness is a form of meditation.
Why practice mindfulness?
Mindfulness allows us to slow down enough in order to choose healthy responses and take control of our lives. It also leads to insight, wisdom, better health, and awakening. The benefits of practicing mindfulness are well documented. MBSR
