Anthony White

Child and Adolescent Counsellor specialising in Art & Play Therapy

About Me

Anthony White is a qualified Child and Adolescent Counsellor at Cherry Tree Therapy Centre in Buckhurst Hill. Specialising in Integrative Art and Play Therapy.

Working within Special Needs Provisions, Pupil Referral Units, mainstream primary schools and private schools has given Anthony vast knowledge and real-life experience to be able to offer advice, support and education to parents, carers and professionals that other therapists may not be able to provide.

“Having first-hand experience of being brought up in an era where there was limited emotional support when going through my parents’ divorce, I felt compelled to pursue the understanding of children’s emotional needs and train as a Child Counsellor”. This led Anthony to work with children voluntarily and now professionally for over 9 years.

Art and Play Therapy

Anthony White qualified at the Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education as an Integrative Arts Counsellor, he went on to develop and build a Therapy Department within a large inner-city primary school. Within a year the service received ‘Outstanding Provider for Mental Health Service’ recognised by Challenge Partners through their assessment framework (similar to Ofsted).

Specialising in the use of the Arts, Anthony works therapeutically with individuals and groups, aged 4- 18 years old who are referred for a range of reasons. As a child and adolescent counsellor, his approach is inherently relational, grounded in attachment theory and object relations. Anthony has a strong knowledge of child development and neuroscience and he aims to work systemically, where possible, engaging with the family, school and social work systems around the child, as appropriate.

Using play, talking and creative arts as tools for expression, exploration and reflection, always ensuring a strong empathic, non-judgemental, relaxed presence, children feel safe and are able to express their emotions and better understand their difficulties and behaviours.
