Alex Manly

Student Counsellor

About Me

Alex Manly is a Student Humanistic Counsellor and Psychotherapist at the Cherry Tree Therapy Centre in Buckhurst Hill.

She is in training at Metanoia Institute, one of the largest counselling and psychotherapy training organisations in the UK. In addition to supporting clients at Cherry Tree Therapy Centre, Alex also sees clients as a student trainee at the Metanoia Counselling and Psychotherapy Service while completing her Diploma and MSc in Humanistic Psychotherapy.

For many people, therapy can often feel like a taboo that can be difficult to talk about – Alex is on a mission to change that.

Sometimes making the decision or taking the first step to find a therapist can feel like a tall order – especially if you’re feeling stuck, burnt-out or are struggling with a specific area of your life.  It could be the first time you’ve thought about exploring therapy, or maybe you’ve tried it before but are still looking for the right therapist for you.  In an initial session with Alex, she will start by getting an understanding of what’s going on for you and discuss what your options could be- breaking-down the sometimes difficult to unpick technical language and making it more accessible.

Alex has a successful career in marketing and her passion for supporting people who need a helping hand, whether that’s on a short-term or long-term basis, drove her decision to retrain as a Psychotherapist. One of her core beliefs is that everybody deserves a voice and to be heard – as part of this, she spends her spare time on the leadership team for TEDxBrighton where she helps individuals bring marginalised and untold stories to a global audience.

Alex’s therapeutic focus areas:

  • Gestalt

What this means: focus on the present moment, to help self-regulation and to respond reasonably and fully in situations

  • Transactional Analysis

What this means: focus on bringing awareness to interactions with others in your life, to help with personal change and growth

  • Person-Centred

What this means: bringing an empathetic understanding to past experiences, thoughts and emotions to help guide you through difficulties
