Morag Makey
Integrative Counsellor and Coach (online only)
(she/her/hers)
Morag believes that real change begins with connection. When you feel safe, understood, and accepted, you can start to explore what’s really going on and what you’d like to be different. Research backs this up — the relationship between therapist and client is one of the biggest factors in how well therapy works.
Morag aims to offer a relationship that feels genuine and supportive, a space where you can be yourself. Together, you can look at what’s happening in your life, notice patterns, and explore new ways of relating to others and to yourself. She works with empathy, warmth, humour, and gentle challenge to help you grow with confidence, compassion and joy.
You don’t need to know exactly what you want from therapy before you start. Many people come simply because they feel stuck and sense that something needs to change. Morag will give you a space to talk, take things one step at a time, and figure out your goals together.
Morag is an Integrative Counsellor and Coach, which means she draws on a mix of approaches and tailors them to you. She is especially interested in how the mind and body are connected, what helps people to flourish and feel fulfilled (from Positive Psychology), and how community and connection support wellbeing (Social Prescribing).
Your work together might involve making sense of your past, finding calm in the present, or creating a vision for the future you want. She’ll go at your pace, using counselling, coaching, and practical tools to help you understand yourself better and build the life you want to live.
Morag builds on her own varied experiences to support you with life transitions, relationships, gender and sexuality, menopause, study, career, cultural, and financial changes.
Before becoming a counsellor, Morag spent many years working in education, with adolescents, people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), Deaf students and adults, and in social emotional learning (SEL), leadership, and training roles. She’s also worked in social justice settings in different parts of the world, all of which shape how she works today.
Morag provides therapy in both English and British Sign Language (BSL), and uses conversational Spanish. She holds an enhanced DBS check and offers a diversity-affirming practice, welcoming people of all identities.
“If these days teach us anything, it’s that all we can do in preparation for tomorrow is nothing. So let’s talk about today.” (Kamila Shamsie)
