Joanne Selby

Joanne Selby Bereavement Counsellor

Joanne Selby

I offer a warm, welcoming, and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace. My approach is grounded in compassion, understanding, and supporting people through difficult and emotionally challenging periods in their lives.

I work with adults aged 18+ and have particular experience supporting grief, bereavement, caring responsibilities, anxiety, stress, trauma, and life transitions.

What I Can Help With

How I Work

I work from a humanistic, person-centred approach, offering therapy that is shaped around you and your individual experiences. I aim to provide a safe and supportive environment where you feel heard, understood, and able to explore difficult emotions without judgement.

I also draw on the Dual Process Model when working with grief and bereavement, recognising that loss can affect people in very different ways and at different stages.

Where appropriate, I can work creatively within sessions using art materials to support self-expression.

About Me

Alongside my work as a therapist, I have worked for a charity for over 20 years, supporting family carers and facilitating support groups. This has included working with people caring for loved ones with dementia, physical health conditions, and terminal illnesses.

I have extensive experience supporting individuals throughout their caring journey, and for some, this continues into bereavement. I understand how easily carers can lose sight of their own emotional needs while supporting others.

I also spent 7 years counselling bereaved family members at St Francis Hospice, which continues to deeply inform my work.

Having experienced difficult times myself and benefited from support, I understand how important it can be to have someone alongside you during vulnerable moments in life. I am passionate about offering comfort, stability, and understanding during periods of grief, change, and emotional overwhelm.
