Helen Lawson is a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist who offers a calm, thoughtful, and collaborative space where clients can speak openly and begin to make sense of what’s going on in their lives.
Helen works with adults from all backgrounds and life experiences, offering both open-ended and short-term therapy. She adapts each session to meet the individual needs of her clients, whether they’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or simply seeking a better understanding of themselves.
Trained at the University of East London and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), Helen also engages in regular CPD to develop and deepen her therapeutic approach.
Her work is integrative, grounded in humanistic values, and informed by psychodynamic thinking. This means she considers how early life experiences and key relationships may continue to shape how we feel and relate to others in the present. She believes that meaningful change happens both through feeling genuinely understood and through gradually understanding ourselves, our emotional world, patterns, and responses, with honesty and care.
Helen places particular emphasis on the therapeutic relationship itself: how trust is built, how client and therapist work together, and what that dynamic can reveal. You don’t need to have things worked out before starting therapy — sessions unfold at your pace, in your own words.
Clients often describe her sessions as a steady, reflective space, somewhere they can pause, think, and reconnect more honestly with themselves. Helen’s aim is not to offer quick fixes, but to support deeper insight, clarity, and a greater sense of freedom in facing life’s challenges.
The first session is a gentle introduction, lasting 50 minutes. It’s a chance to talk about what’s brought you to therapy and begin to explore whether working together feels like a good fit. Helen will ask some simple questions to understand your story, but there’s no pressure to share anything you’re not ready to.
You can also discuss practicalities such as whether you’re looking for short-term or ongoing therapy, session times, fees, and what support might look like.
If you’d prefer to speak before booking a full session, Helen offers a free 15-minute telephone consultation to answer any questions and help you decide if therapy with her feels right.
Sessions are available in person or online, and fees start from £80 per 50-minute session. If you’d like to book a session with Helen, please complete the form below.
