Andrew is a student counsellor, completing his placement hours for a Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling he is studying with Key Counselling Training. He provides a down-to-earth, warm, non-judgemental space where clients can feel free to discuss whatever is on their mind.
Andrew works in an integrative manner, bringing together the Transactional Analysis (TA), Gestalt and Person Centred approaches. The latter is the bedrock of his methodology, allowing the client to lead the work where they may. TA brings in easy-to-understand analytical tools, and Gestalt adds a holistic, here-and-now experience. He brings a calm, steady demeanour to the therapy space.
Andrew is experienced in dealing with issues around depression, anxiety, stress, relationships and communication, body image and self-esteem, identity, bereavement, and fears around mortality. Issues such as these can be difficult to broach, and Andrew will always give clients the space they need to find a means of communicating about what is on their mind. He creates space to talk, offers paths to understanding, and recognises the role of the client as the expert on themselves.
Prior to joining Cherry Tree Therapy Centre, Andrew’s background has been far from the world of therapy, having worked in retail environments for over 30 years. Relationship-building, communication, and patience are at the heart of that work. It has also given him a pragmatic, grounded attitude in his interactions. He has dealt daily with all manner of people, from all walks of life, from all over the world, and loved the experience. It is the joy and respect he had for his customers for over three decades that has put him on this path.
