The aim of the group is to bring together amazing menopausal women (yes, that’s you) and support each other going through this big life event. We will support all aspects of the menopause journey and not just the physical symptoms.

Our approach is positive, compassionate, understanding, and based on our common experiences.

Group Information

Women’s experiences of menopause and how they manage those experiences can be as unique as the women themselves. Menopause typically occurs between the ages of 49 and 52 but some women go through early menopause, either due to medical reasons or genetic factors. Menopause is separated into three stages:

  • peri-menopause
  • menopause
  • post menopause

Perimenopause

This is the stage before menopause occurs and can begin ten years before a woman’s periods finally stop for good. In this stage, the amount of oestrogen the ovaries produce begins to decline and as a consequence, a woman may start to experience symptoms such as hot flashes, night sweat, palpitations, change in length of menstrual cycle etc. There are actually over 34 symptoms of menopause! You can find more information here. The peri-menopause lasts until the ovaries finally stop producing eggs.

Menopause

Menopause is the point when a woman no longer menstruates. This is confirmed once a woman has gone 12 months without her menstrual period.

Post Menopause

Post-menopause is the stage after a woman’s menstrual periods have completed stopped. Some women find that their symptoms lessen during these times but as said above, each woman’s body is uniques as is her experience. However, it’s not just the physical aspect of menopause that women find challenging. Women also go through psychological and emotional journeys. The end of a woman’s fertility and youth can bring mixed emotions. It also may be a time when children are leaving home, or parents are aging and in need of extra support, in fact, many changes may come at once. In fact, menopause is often referred to as ‘THE Change’ and for good reason.

This group is facilitated by a qualified therapist and is free to attend.

We also offer individual counselling support for those struggling with menopause.
